USCIS receives around 7.5 million applications a year and mistakes happen. Cut them some slack here. Bad luck to OP. Contact USCIS and see what happens and please post here after your issue is resolved. Others will benefit from your experience.
USCIS has deliberately created circumstances for 7.5 million applications. For eg. why can 485 receipt not act as an Advance Parole and EAD ? It looks like they want more applications and then claim that they are very busy.

This depends ona lot of things.
But ppl with in USA applying for PR has been getting from 12 - 18 months.
If you are applying for Quebec, then its more faster.
The best thing to make sure that your applications moves faster is make sure that u submit all the paper work they request. Get the things in place when you apply. It is very easy to do it yourself.
Just follow the instructions and they tell you what all kind of paper work is needed.

My situation would answer your questions.
My passport expiry date is Apr 14, 2007. I came back from India after a vacation on Jan 21 2007. My H1-B extension is valid until sep 1 2007.
The immigration officer at the POE stopped me and said he would not allow me in since my passport is not even valid for 6 months. I argued with him saying I can renew it at the embassy in 1 day, if i go in person and am planning to do that. He disagreed and called his supervisor. Somehow his supervisor referred some rule book and said India is in some Club and so I should be allowed inside with a I-94 marked as VOPP. So the officer issued me a I-94 until Apr 4+10 days which is my passport expiry date. Now I applied for my passport renewal and then I should apply for a H1-B extension.

So to put this clear... I have experience abroad matching the labor job profile of 4 years. Then I have experience in U.S. with employer A (no labor related only an H-1B) for 3 years. Then I worked one year with employer B and after that -in Feb 2005- Employer B applied for Labor. So my relevant experience that I could use to say the job is same or similar is my 4 ys abroad with similar job description plus the 3 years in US with company A so total 7 years.
When I joined company B (the labor sponsoring company) I already had 7 ys experience in other employer than B, so for same or similar I could use up to 7 ys experience requirement as long as the job description and title are almost the same (which they are)?.
I know this is an interesting question which many people probably have. I posted the question for the Conference call so that people which will be or are in the same situation could know for sure how to handle this isssue.

it is not easy as you think. Once you have this non renewable/non transferable stamp on the license you are stuck. For eg:- even if you stay in the state that issues that lisence (in this case Ohio), you will have to retake the whole test (computer + driving test) to even renew the lisense when your visa is renewed. You initially get the lisence only valid until the day of your visa expiry.
bottom line:: THIS IS THE CRAZIEST RULE THAT I HAVE COME ACCROSS. The more a person drives I was under the impression that her/his skills improve. I am not against checking the visa validity etc but to make you take the whole drivers test again is SIMPLY STUPIDITY.

Just a quick comment on S4165504 reply based on my experiences that I posted before on the same thread.
The airport immigration counter or the CPB offices can correct only the mistakes from their side, and that too only within 2 or 3 days. But for cases where the I-94 expired, they dont consider it as a mistake on their side and immediately ask you to leave.
In fact, for my case when I called the LA airport immigration counter office, they adviced me that I can only go to the CPB office in downtown for any corrections and cannot come to the airport office.

My H1B visa stamp has expired, but I have the approval papers extending my H1B until Jan 2011. My company filed for bankruptcy. Another company bought parts of my company (not the entire company) in which I work. So I got absorbed by the buyer.
What happens to my visa? Does the new company have to file for an amended petition? If so, how long does that take?
I have to travel to India in two months. If they file the petition and I travel out of the country before I get the approval, will that be safe?

Seems to me, whether we like it nor not, whether it is fair or not, whether it is sensible or not, whatever, whenever this issue has come up since 2005, despite efforts to separate them our issue is tied up with the fate of the issue of the illegals in legislators minds.
American legislators(collectively) don't seem willing or able to deal with these issues separately.
So, though from a philosophical perspective I remain neutral on the issue of legalization of the status of illegal immigrants, I feel our best interests are served with a pro CIR candidate, whatever the stated position about legal highly skilled immigration. They simply don't seem ready to move on that without CIR. Whatever the consequences for the economy and global competitiveness.
Overall a McCain vs either Obama/Clinton would be OK for us, since at the very least the temperature of the debates on the issue of immigration will be less and the tone of the debate more rational and reasoned. Also that match up would make it less likely for a 3rd candidate. Romney would have fanned the flames of the anti immigrants. I write in the past tense because the or"MITT"uaries on that campaign are already being written for publication after Feb 5th.
Agree with logiclife that election of pro immigrant senators would help. That seems to me, to mean democratic gains except blue dog democrats, since that would help them push legislation through. All in all we want immigration to remain in the discussion, but the conversation to be less emotive and more reasoned and rational and civil.

Are you sure she is 2 months away in getting her visa number current? For example if her priority date is Jan 1st 1998 and they are currently processing Nov 1st 1997. It seems like you mother will be current in 2 months but it could take USCIS 2 years to move forward 2 months in processing. Processing dates don't move by calendar time.
Maybe I am misunderstanding your question. If so please ignore the above.

I have the affidavits and the birth certificate with me. The problem is with the misspelled names on those when compared to my passport.
Get Affidavits in which u will specify the document(i.e Birth certificate ) has the parents names misspelt and the correct spelling (i.e as in passport) and plus other details you full name ,DOB and place of birth etc etc.Affidavits are required in case the information on the Birth Certificate is incomplete i.e no name or when there is incorrect information i.e place of birth missplet ,parents name not in expanded format etc etc.
